Gentle giant Janus, who retired to the Horse Trust's Home of Rest for Horses in Buckinghamshire
five years ago from The Household Cavalry, has been treated to a new pair of high heels.
Staff at the Trust had grown very concerned about this old soldier, who was becoming increasingly
stiff and uncomfortable - although this was not surprising after his life in the Army, where he
spent his years in service carrying the heavy ceremonial drums for the Blues and Royals.
Strong medication seemed to be the only answer for Janus until the Trust's Yard Manager, Shirley
Abbott and the farrier hit upon an idea. By fitting wedge heel supports to his front feet the pain
and pressure on his deep flexor tendon and navicular bones was immediately relieved.
Now requiring only minimal medication, Janus is enjoying a new lease of life and is a very much
happier horse!
