Rosie and Duchess, two Shire mares from Bodafon Farm Park, Llandudno, have been reunited with their stablemates Jim, Tom and Tryfan at The Horse Trust’s Home of Rest for Horses in Speen, Buckinghamshire.
The five have gone into honourable retirement because Bryan Cogger and Kay Parry, who have run Bodafon Farm Park as a visitor attraction for many years can no longer manage the heavy horses.
Rosie is a 17.2 hands grey who, while both ridden and used to pull a harrow at the farm, delights most in being allowed to sleep gently in her stable. Duchess, the black mare with three white feet and a gentle white nose, is the larger of the pair, at 18.2hh.
The five Shires were delighted to meet up again and Mrs Parry said: “These horses are precious to us and have been a delight to hundreds of people visiting the farm or seeing them at shows, weddings and parades. We are so grateful to the Horse Trust for keeping our family of Shires together and also giving them the opportunity to enjoy visitors and for providing the care and kindness for the horses in their later years.”
