Summer at The Horse Trust

Louise bathing Honey The Horse Trust is running a variety of activities during the summer holidays at its sanctuary in Speen, Buckinghamshire.

Staff at The Horse Trust will be putting on demonstrations between 2:15pm and 3pm every Wednesday and weekend during the summer holidays. Visitors can watch and learn about a variety of horse care topics such as grooming, bathing, clipping and farriery.

Staff will also be holding 'meet and greet' sessions where visitors can learn more about the individual horses, ponies and donkeys living at The Home of Rest. The Horse Trust provides lifetime sanctuary for more than 100 horses, ponies and donkeys from many different backgrounds, including rescue cases and retired working horses from the police, army and The Royal Mews.

The Horse Trust is also running three competitions for children over the summer - a drawing, short story and word search competition. For the drawing and short story competitions, children are being asked to draw a picture or write a short story about their favourite horse, pony or donkey at the sanctuary. The entries from all three competitions will be judged on 21st September and the winners will each receive a horsey gift pack.

The Horse Trust's Home of Rest for Horses is open every day of the week between 2pm and 4pm. Entrance to the sanctuary is free, but donations are welcomed to enable the charity to meet its running costs. It costs £17 to pay for all the costs of looking after a horse for a day, including feed, veterinary bills and farrier costs.
