Money Raised for Sanctuary

The money was raised at a Dinner Dance event held at Maidenhead Golf Club in March. Derek, who was Master of the Freemason's Lodge at the time, wanted to raise money for The Horse Trust at the Lodge's annual fundraising event as he has regularly visited the sanctuary with his family.
"We have visited the sanctuary about 20 or 30 times," said Derek. "We went regularly when our sons were young and we now go with our granddaughter. It's lovely to see how well the horses are looked after, especially after the long careers some of them have had."
The Horse Trust looks after a number of retired working horses, including horses that worked for the police, army and Riding for the Disabled.
Derek, his wife Shirley, and their seven-year-old granddaughter Abigail were given a personal tour of The Horse Trust on Sunday. Derek said Abigail loved visiting the sanctuary and was particularly fond of George, a 9.3hh gelding who retired to the sanctuary from Battersea Children's Zoo, because he was her favourite colour.
Paul Jepson, Chief Executive of The Horse Trust, said: "We are delighted that Derek and the Thames Mariner Lodge ran this event in aid of The Horse Trust. The money they have raised will make a difference, not only to the horses in the sanctuary, but to the welfare of horses across the UK."
