Wellgate Pony Retires
Romford-charity Wellgate Community Farm has said goodbye to Ruby, a pony who has been at the farm for the last 15 years.
Ruby,
a 28 year old Skewbald Hackney cross pony, travelled 60 miles in a
horse box to reach The Horse Trust's Home of Rest for Horses, where she
will have access to 200 acres of paddocks.
Donna Widlake, the
Stock Supervisor at Wellgate Community Farm, said Ruby deserves a good
retirement after 15 years of service giving pony rides to children,
visiting local schools and attending fetes.
"We're really
happy that The Horse Trust is taking her in as it's such a lovely
place. She's now got loads of acres to run around in," said Donna.
Donna
said that Ruby was popular at the farm and will be missed by visitors.
"Visitors to the farm always ask where Ruby is," said Donna. "Some of
the children who visit the farm are nervous and shy, but spending time
with animals like Ruby gives them more confidence."
Paul
Jepson, Chief Executive of The Horse Trust, said: "We are delighted to
welcome Ruby to the Home of Rest. She has given so much to her local
community and we hope she will have a long and healthy retirement
here."
