Competition Winners
The Horse Trust has today announced the winners of two competitions for young visitors to its sanctuary. Entries were received from over 100 young people who visited the sanctuary over the summer. The two winners, aged 9 and 10, visited the charity's sanctuary in Speen, Buckinghamshire to collect their prize - a Horse Trust gift pack - and were given a personal tour of the sanctuary by Matt Bradley, a groom at The Horse Trust.
Georgia Lewis, 10, who won the drawing and short story competition, visited The Horse Trust with her parents to pick up her prize. Georgia, who lives in High Wycombe, drew a picture of Janus, an ex-Household Cavalry drum horse.
"I really liked Janus because he was pretty, caring, friendly, loving and I could have stroked him all day. Janus was my favourite horse in the whole stables and I spent most of my time there," wrote Georgia in her entry.
During her visit Georgia picked up her prize - a Horse Trust gift pack, which included various horse-related items including a book, figurines, storage tin and Horse Trust calendar and cards.
Janus sadly passed away in September, so Georgia was unable to see him during her visit. However, she enjoyed meeting Eric, another ex-Household Cavalry drum horse at the sanctuary.
Wendover resident Charlotte Brown, 9, who won the word search competition, visited The Horse Trust with her parents Diane and David, and her sister Francesca, 5. After receiving her prize, Charlotte had her picture taken with Ryan, a rescue horse at the sanctuary.
“Charlotte is delighted with her prize and hasn’t stopped playing with it since," said Diane.
Susan Lewis, marketing manager at The Horse Trust, said she was impressed with the quality of the entries.
"Thank you to everyone who took part in the competition. We were really impressed with the creativity of the entries and the judges found it hard to pick a winner," said Susan.
The Horse Trust has produced a pull-out activity book for children in the latest issue of its newsletter. The activity book, called Chestnut's Club, includes fun facts about horses and The Horse Trust, a horse crossword and wordsearch, and horse pictures to colour in.
