New boys Dexter and Fagin are the first two horses to arrive
at the Horse Trust’s Home of Rest for Horses since the charity
changed its name.
The charity has grown in stature since its foundation 120 years
ago as a rest home for the working horses of London now embracing
a diverse agenda of welfare, science and education.
However, never forgetting the Trust’s roots these two fine working
horses have retired from the Thames Valley and Greater Manchester
police mounted units respectively. Both have had high pressure working
lives, dealing with demonstrations, parades and football matches.
Dexter, a 16.3 hand dark bay gelding from the Thames Valley Unit and
Fagin, a 17.1 hand grey from Greater Manchester, have both retired
ahead of their time. The stress of their modern jobs and their long
length of service has brought forward their retirement and they are
now enjoying the peace and tranquillity of the Chiltern Hills.
